I've had a ipd chip in my 850t for two years, never had a single problem. If you're worried bout turbo longevity, switch to mobil one, and keep the tranny oil clean. You will see added performance, and mpg will increase bout 1mpg, too. Don't worry about overstressing the engine, new 5 cyls from the factory pump out 250 ponies, and they are the same design as your 97.
