Added R134 and now the compressor doesn't engage.

As the compressor warms up, it takes more volts to engage the electromatic clutch. If the clutch gap is getting too large, it will not engage. With the engine running and the AC switched on, try touching the center of the clutch with a broom handle, careful to not touch the S belt. A light touch should be enough to engage the clutch.

You could reshim the clutch by removing it, or use plastic bread clips and glue them in the front of the clutch plate.
