Air Recirculation question 850 1997

Again, this is for a 1997 Volvo N/A. Acquired this vehicle a few months ago, and since it was winter I kept the Air Recirculate button in the on position, as I'd seen recommended here unless you have the defroster on. Well, today, for the first time, I turned it off, and I heard a consistent five (5) clicks in a sequence. Thought it might be a fluke, so I turned it back on and the clicking sound stops. Turned it back off, and it clicks five times, spaces about three second, and continues to click five times, continuously. Since today is the first time this year the air temperature reached 70+ I also found out that my AC is not blowing cold, which might just be a matter of recharging it, however my curiosity right now is mainly with the clicking sound which comes from under the glove box area. Any ideas?

Thanks.
