Hello, I had to find the canister on my 2002 FWD. It was nestled between the rear wheels-right where a differential would live, were it 4WD. Removal of the LR wheel, the fender liner (drill out the plastic pop rivets-no big deal). 2 large bolts held the rear most hanger and I removed a small (12" x 5") piece of sheet metal which bridged the bottom of the "tunnel". This allows the exhaust system to pivot down. Total 4 bolts and 5 pop rivets.
Other results in my search said the canister was located atop the gas tank. Not bad at all if it's between the rear wheels. If the tank has to come down I guess you'd have to be sure to loosen/remove any hose keepers etc. so you could drop it. Kira
