Air pump running after warm up, perhaps

After sleeping on it, it might not have been the air pump! Because the hood was frozen to the bumper at the time, I couldn't open the hood fast enough to find out where the noise was coming from. I cannot hear the pump at start up when cold.

I remembered hearing it before, after a 3 mile drive. Thoughts then had me going for the tranny pump. But that didn't make sense.

Could it have been the idle control motor?? Could that make a turbine sound loud enough to hear with the hood closed? Doesn't seem likely.

From the outside, front of the car, it did sound like it came from the driver's side.
