Alternator removal V70-XC70 1999

Hello All,

Today, when a few of the idiot lights came on somewhat faintly, and I had 100 miles yet to get home, I checked the battery voltage which was 11.99 volts static and with the engine idling 11.34.

That's when I knew I was in trouble. I got off the hightway and purchased a couple of batteries at Wal-Mart to cover me and made the ride home, only using one of the newly purchased batteries.

Car has 130K so I figure its time for an alternator rebuild, but I'm not so experienced with the V-70 vs (the three 240's). If anyone can give me a blow by blow on removing the alternator, that would be great and make my life somewhat easier. I suppose it could be the brushes but with 130k and a good local rebuilder, it's not worth screwing around with replacing brushes. I think the last alternator rebuild was $70.

Thanks much,

Marty Wolfson
