2000 V70 hesitation V70-XC70

I still have the 98 S70 non turbo. I bought the 2000 V70 because I needed a wagon. Have to admit, other than the hesitation problem, it runs a lot quieter and smoother than the S70. I think the problem may actually be the air mass sensor( and possibly the ETM). My local mechanic says the air mass sensor fails before the ETM. He says the ETMs either work on don't work.
