Valcuum Problem, I THINK! 850 97

I have only had my volvo for about 4 months but have noticed that my brakes take a little more effort than I feel should be necessary to operate them. I figured that's just the way a Volvo is. But yesturday while driving around a had to stop quickly because of a red light I didn't expect (Nothing exteme), The brakes pedal seemed to pump up at little in the middle of this menuver, probably because of the anti-lock brakes. The weird thing is the AC/heating went to blowing cool air even though I had the heat on max temperature. After about 3 minutes the system got control of itself and starting blowing warm air again. Has anyone had problems like this before? Any help would be appreciated

THANKS,

BRAD
