Alternator removal V70-XC70 1999

I have done this job on my 1998 a couple of times. I had an oil spill that caused my orig alt to fail and then the used aftermarket one I got from a junker failed about 3 weeks later.

The upper rad hose doesn't need to come out, but I found no way to remove the Alt without first removing the power steering pump. There just isn't any room.

maybe if you have some room to get under (hoist?) you can do it from underneath? I did mine as suggested above from the top.

If you're going to re-shim your AC clutch, this is also the time to do it. I have read some people talk about loosening the AC comp from below to get access, but I see no room for that on my car, and I tried one afternoon for about an hour before I gave up an did the 'bread tag' fix... I think you could get to the bolts with the PS and Alt out of the way.
