Engine compartment smell V70-XC70 2000

Hi,

Hopefully someone can point me where to look. I've recently notice that with the vent open, the heater on, and the windows closed smells from the engine compartment enter the car. It's slight but there. It's not oil, gas, antifreeze, just the combined smell of everything mixed, what you'd get if you opened the hood and took a good wiff. It's more noticeable when the car is parked and running, or when it's hot, stopped, and then restarted shortly afterwards. I've checked the hood gasket and it looks good. Any ideas? Is this normal and I've just noticed it for the first time?

I have roughly 12k miles and the local temp hase been between 10-30 degrees for the last week.

Thanks
