John, an adapter is available for about $50 that will let the Alpine unit plug right into the Volvo head unit. I have one and it makes the Alpine CHM-S620 operate in a way identical to the OEM changer. Even with the adapter the Alpine solution is much more cost effective. I also used the OEM Volvo changer mounting bracket (P/N 3533737 costs under $15) to house the Alpine unit (just drilled 4 holes in the bracket and used Alpine's L-shaped brackets to mount to the OEM bracket). The whole thing fits perfectly into the spot designed for the OEM changer (the OEM bracket screws into the trunk floor's pre-drilled/pre-threaded holes). Have yet to hear a skip in over 1.5 years of peration.

I also see quite a few of these (OEM Volvo changers) on eBay for less than $300. But you have to remember that you will also need a Volvo cable, which is another $60 or so unless your car is pre-wired (most are not).
