I just had a look at your local Craigslist, what a bunch of junk! Up here, a good 850 with a bad tranny is worth around $900 (parts car is $750). You are better off with the old S1/S2 and a flashing arrow. I wonder if the SL couldn't be cleaned and tested with a small battery?

A final alternative would be to install a used tranny from a 1995, a 1997 would also fit with a little speedo sensor wiring change. Cheaper than a clunker.
