440xi starting problems 400 1993

After leaving my 440xi in my sisters "care" for several months I now have it back with a starting/firing problem. After driving it for 5 minutes the engine died on me. After coming to a stop it restarted first time. After driving another 60 miles the same thing happened again. Now I seldom seem to get the car to start. I have replaced the ht leads, distributer cap and coil. When I hold a ht lead to the engine block there is no spark, other times (not many) there is. I have a friend with the similar make of car and have tried my flywheel sensor and also coil and unit coil sits in in his car and works fine. It looks like an intermittant (becoming constant) fault in the ignition circuit. Are there any relays etc I should be checking. Any help any of you could give me would be appreciated.

John
