Hello, My 1999 P/S pump made noise at 58K. A flush with synthetic P/S fluid-not synthetic transmission fluid-cured it for 64,000 miles. At that point the pump began to brrrrr on the Interstate and increased to full HOWL in 5 minutes. $40 bought me a junker which seemed to have had the real pale green (Volvo or Pentosin) synthetic fluid in it for it's entire life.
