I recently purchased an 850 that came with 3 remotes: one of them is very weak (like your problem), one not bad (good within 5-10 feet)and one very strong (car can usually be opened one touch from up to 30 feet). This is how it is with new batteries in all remotes. There seems to be a lot of variability in the quality of the signal strength from these units. Try another unit?
