You are right, you are limited by the above items as to where you can go. Lying on my back, I used my left hand and snaked it up by the halfshaft to the top of the motor mount. In my right hand, I had a pair of needle-nosed pliers that I used to remove the clip holding the harness to the motor mount. It was contortion city, but I was able to accomplish it, eventually.

Reinstalling the clip in the motor mount wasn't easy, so I found the hole the clip went into, ran a long zip tie through it, and secured the cable to the top of the motor mount.

The whole operation took about an hour, and some cursing.
