Oil Leaks - Rear Seal? '94 850T 850 1994

I have an 850T bought new 7 years ago. Has only 45K miles but now leaks oil in the driveway. First time to dealer they said a loose hose on the turbo. Leaks went away but now returned. Today they said needs new rear engine seal and handed me an estimate for $800. Dealer said this is "normal wear and tear"! I can't believe 45K miles on a volvo = relplace oil seals. Seems rediculous, we buy for the high mileage reputation. Nearly traded it in last month, but it is loaded, in nice shape and has low miles... Anyone have any experience with or insight into these leaks? Is this common? Do I hear $12K?
