Stripped torx on door check strap 850 1996

Help!

My driver's side door check strap is broken. I bought a new one online and started to work on installing it. Looks like an easy enough job. One of the first things is to remove the T40 torx bolt that holds the strap to the frame. Due to my not really having the proper tool and my general spazziness, the splines in the torx head are now pretty badly stripped and the bolt has not budged. Any ideas for what to do next? Anyone have luck with easy-out screw extractors on this one? Drill it out? It's kind-of A tight space for vice grips...

All suggestions welcome!

Thanks in advance.
