Whine at idle only S70 GLT 00

Was wondering if anyone has an explanation for a constant whine when at idle (under 1000 rpm), which disappears immediately at higher RPMs? It seems to be coming from the rear of the engine, near the firewall. Whine is loud enough to hear inside the cabin with windows up. Any quick checks I could do before taking it in? Risk of damage while driving like this?
