At 105K, the timing belt, tensioner, rollers, and possibly the water pump. If the antifreeze is of good quality, the water pump should last to 200K. All of these are 'easily' DIY items.

I am surprised that the clutch was replaced, they usually last for 200K+.

Struts and shocks are easily replaced, so long as you have a spring compressor. You just need to spend $100 for a good alignment afterwards.

The major concern for 2003 is the electronics. The instrument panel has its own computer (DIM) and is known to fail. Fortunately, www.xemodex.com has a repair which beats the replacement from the dealer hands down.

The P2 wagons have 3 fuse boxes! Make sure there is a manual in the glove box.

Your biggest concern is that your partner never learned to drive a stick. Use an empty parking lot, flat, and make it easy.
