Air working intermittently

So even though the right side temp contol works it still could be the EEC?
I turned it off max cold hte other day, it worked for a bit then went to warm. If yo utake out hte EEC will it run at a default setting? They are cheap so i will try.
I read repairman jacks post about his AC. I wonder if low refrigerant is my problem. It's been maybe 6-7 years since my air was filled.
