Thanks for all the responses! S70 98

Thank you everyone for your input/answers to my questions.

FYI, I'm getting 20-21 in combined city/highway driving, around 26 on the highway. I live on the flat Texas Gulf Coast so I think that 26 is about as good as it gets without a manual transmission. In April, I'm planning on a road trip to Philadelphia and will see how good/bad the mileage is on that trip.

The rattles I'm hearing are when the interior sunroof hatch is retracted into the roof, not when in the closed position. It sounds like a wire tapping against metal somewhere in the roof. When I first got the car, there was another rattle that sometimes occurred, but it came from the sunshade and was easily fixed.

The SCCA question: I'd like to drive the S70 in an auto-cross because these events are a great way to learn better control and safer handling of your automobile. There is a racing aspect to the auto-cross, but you rarely even hit 50 mph on the small courses that I'm used to. It's all about avoiding cones, efficient braking and knowing how your vehicle performs in a turn (at speed).

I asked about the headlight cover because last summer, while driving through heavy wind in San Antonio, a piece of rock chipped a pinhole sized-hole in the passenger side headlight. I sealed it up with a tiny bit of clear rubber sealant and it seems to be holding up just fine.

I've also had to replace a speaker (front driver's side). It dropped out during "Junior's Farm" and the dealer replaced it under warranty. Other than that problem, the sound system has been excellent, whether you're playing Mendelssohn or The Motels.

Last night, my "low coolant" light came on and I pulled into a service station to check it out. Normal coolant level was found in the reservoir and the temperature gauge was right in the middle range where it usually lives when the engine is warm. I ended up lifting the reservoir tank off its mounts and lightly tapping the base a few times on the strut tower. The light went out and 50 miles later, there are no lingering problems. I either fixed the problem or broke something else.

Finally, I'll disclose that my S70 is a red one and that overall, I'm very glad that I bought it. I'm glad to know that such an excellent resource as this website exists and that so many people evidently have it bookmarked.

Regards,

Bryan
