Does car need to be warmed up before driving? S70 2000

Does a turbo car need to be warmed up before driving when the weather is around the 30 degree range at night? Just wondering. It seems to me that the gear change from 1rst gear to 2nd is very noticeble(jolty) when the car is cold. Then when it warms up, everything is fine. Any pointers to give my car the best treatment?

thanks.
