96 850 intermittent stalling 850 1996

Posting this for a friend as I sold my last brick, 240 wagon 5 spd, a few years back.

Friend has an 850 (75,000), engine cover says 2.0, he says 2.4, that is stalling when coming to a stop. Can't hold a steady idle. You can keep it from stalling by putting it into neutral and revving the engine. Happens after the car is warmed, and when it stalls you can tell the engine is running ritch by the smell.

Changed plugs, told him it needs wires, rotor/cap. He has read a lot about the fuel relay and wants to get one. I also told him to buy a "spare" MAF to keep on him and if it fixes the problem than all set.

Can anyone tell me if I'm off the mark here, and/or, should I explore any other things.

Thanks in advance, good to cruise the brick forums again!
