Re: What is DOT4+ Brake Fluid? S70 1998

Well I looked at my $300 brake fluid refractometer today, it is calibrated for dot4 and dot4+, the scales are set up in percentage of moisture vs boiling point.

dot4 dot4+

1% 240C 275C

2% 195C 240C

3% 175C 195C

4% 160C 183C

5% 152C 167C

6% 140C 160C

These numbers are close, the scales have big jumps so I just guessed as best I could. At 2% the difference is 45C, 2% moisture content is also the max recommended.

I'm not sure about other sources for the dot4+ besides Volvo, I just go to the aparts window and thats what we carry now.
