97 850 Oil Breather box question 850

Looking for a smoking dipstick can only be done with the engine running. If you see smoke after the engine is off, it means the oil is hot enough to burn off any pollutants. Check it again with a hot engine running.

If you have a turbo, you will need to at least clean the PTC nipple. The NA engines have a PCV valve that needs to be cleaned.

If you use non-synthetic oil, the oil separator may be getting clogged and that requires manifold removal to access the separator.
