Laser is usually seen here in europe as very, very 'budget' exhaust.. Perhaps they have a better reputation in the US, but here it's more a case of 'more noise' than real effect.

You can get a very good straight-through muffler. The TME set I have on my car uses that (you can look right through), but it's still very subdued in noise level.

You'll just get a bit more 'rumbling' sounds as the straight-through absorption mufflers mainly filter out the high(er) frequencies. Baffle-style mufflers often have a more 'tinny' sound as they leave high frequencies alone and take on the low frequencies.
