I think I know why the monthly price is so high, it includes taxes. Otherwise, the total payments would be almost $30K for a $42K car - residual value of $11K.

These are dealer prices for XC90s in the Twin Cities area. Notice that the 2008 cars start at $24K for high miles. Yes, Yes, this is not trade in value, but in your case, the dealer will be making a profit with any price above $13K.
