Thinking of buying...seeking your opinions on the S40 S40-V40 2001

I'm looking into a new 2001 S40 and would like to know what you all think of it (especially if you have one). Peoblems, driving pleasure, performance, which options are worth it, etc...I'm thinking of the S40 or an Audi A4 1.8T-anyone know how they compare? Currently own a 1984 240 which has been an excellent car and fun to drive (with IPD suspension). Is Volvo going to get rid of the S40 (I've heard rumors that it'll be renamed and built on the Ford Focus frame)? Thanks...
