Short to battery? S80

My 2008 S80 (V6) will not start. I have to unhook the battery to ge it to charge. When I hook it up, the headlights come on but the dash lights will not. The key is in the slot but will not come out. When I depress the brake to start the car, something clicks and the battery immediately drains to almost nothing.
The negative battery cable and post were getting hot so I replaced the cable. Battery still drains immediately when I depress brake to start car.
