I agree with KlausC but I'm going to be a bit stronger in my recommendation:

Run away and don't look back.

The 2001 has enough problems as it is, many of them hidden/lurking. If this car is already showing symptoms it's already on the slope to becoming a money-pit.

Find yourself a 2003-2007 even if it costs more money to get it. You'll end up ahead in the long-run.
