Transmission question 850 1993

While driving approx 25mph today I had to braked hard due to some idiot pulling out in front of me. When I stepped on the gas, then engine reved, as if it were in neutral, and then the transmission caught and I jerked foward. Later that day I drove onto a side street to try and duplicate what had happened. I drove at 25 mph, hit the brakes hard, and the engined reved when I hit the gas until the transmission caught. The fluid was changed 6K miles ago and is topped off. There are no error codes showing. Its been 130,000 trouble free miles and I hope this is not a sign of a $2500 transmission job. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
