Re: Split CV Boot 850 1995

Hi-

I don't know if the volvo is the same but I had both boots replaced on my FWD jetta. It does involve removing the half-axle to use the 1 piece boot. If you do this, I would recommend getting a mechanic to do it, I hear it is very messy.

While I was invstigating doing it myself I talked to a guy that used a split boot. If you can keep the grease off of the split and use the adhesive to join the "split" I hear it works just fine.

My dealership said the rotation of the joint would work against the adhesive bond and break it.

My believe is that a well bonded joint will be stronger than the parent material of the boot.

That being said, I did go ahead and have it done with 1 piece boot. Go figure.
