I don't know what caused your fault code but I have had one occur before when manually downshifting to L. It goes into "limp home" mode, ie stuck in third, but clears itself if left for an hour or so. You can also reset it manually. There are various switches and solenoids (PNP switch, gear position sensor) that are sometimes faulty. Sorry I can't be of more help.
