Front Passenger Door Won't Open From Inside 850

Hello again lads.

The passenger door (front) won't open from the inside. I just finished taking the door panel off and looked around. There's not much to see, but it looked like the top of the linkage that pivots towards me (when operating the door latch from the inside) has a broken plastic remnant in a small hole.

Other than the pivoting piece, nothing else seems to move.

Did a piece of linkage break off the was connected to the small hole?

Sorry if I'm not describing things very well. I appreciate any insight into this repair. My wife's growling has been getting louder and louder. She has to roll down the window and open the door from the outside.
