Re: Split CV Boot 850 1994

Just did this myself when I replaced the struts last weekend. I called the dealer and the boot kit was about $65, and included the boot, clips, and greese. I called alot of auto part stores and none even showed a split boot as an option, and only one had a boot in stock. I replaced my ripped boot with the non-split type for about $9.00 (which had the greese and clips) in about 45 minutes. The only problem I ran into was in getting the half shaft out of the transaxle. You'll need to pry it between the case and the inner CV joint, but be careful. Volvo makes a tool specifically for this, but I used one of those flat pry bars that I ground down to a thin edge about 1 inch from the end. Don't damage the seal in the case. When you get the CV joint apart, mark the parts so you get everything back in the same position - don't mix up the balls. Also, when replacing the clips, you'll either have to have the special crimping tool, or get a pair of end snips and grind down the edge so it crimps the clip and doesn't cut it.
