There was no need to remove the gas pedal to replace the heater core or the 2 lines to the firewall. That is only for some of the newer model cars.

There is a vacuum line behind and above the brake pedal, attached to the CC switch. Make sure it is in place. There is another line that goes from the brake to the gas pedal.

The vacuum pump, not controller, is under the battery tray. The line you found goes from the pump to the brake pedal.
