Winter tires S80

I agree, studs are great in packed now and ice, terrible on pavement. After 100 miles of concrete or asphault, the studs will be as high as the rubber and loose all of their advantages.

Going smaller width is a good idea in wet or snow, but your braking distance will increase in the dry.

Get really GOOD dedicated snow tires mounted on their own wheels, no studs, using the 205 or 215 width. Because the tires are premounted, you do not have to rush the season at the local garage and get them mounted and you can take them off earlier in the spring.
