Throttle body? V70-XC70 2004

My normally aspirated V70 (180,000 miles) has recently stalled several times upon stopping. When restarting the engine would idle until put in gear, and then die. After a few minutes it returned to normal operation.
My local independent (Volvo) mechanic immediately suspected the throttle body and offered to install a refurbished one. The CEL light, which had been on prior and since, was off at that moment so he said he could not read any codes.
Is the throttle body a known issue on 2004's?
Is it likely be defective; how would this be diagnosed? IS there a code for this? Could cleaning help?
Any other suspicions?
