Floor heat/defrost/AC 850 1997

When the outside temp fals below 50F or so, the Auto function will not use the AC. In the winter, using the Auto function allows the antifreeze to heat up before starting up the blower - usually in 1/2 mile.

If you put the switches on Auto/Auto do the orange lights blink when you start the car? That indicates there is a problem with the vents, temp sensors, etc.

If you are putting the vent selector on defrost and you do not get air flow at the bottom of the windshield, you will need to check the codes with a code reader that can check the ECC - usually dealer or a laptop scanner.

Up here in the colder climate, I never use defrost to keep the windshield free from snow/ice. The colder the windshield, the cleaner it stays without wipers on. I also crack the driver's window about 1/2 inch to get rid of any fog on the inside of the car.
