Three child car seats 850 1994

My wife and I are expecting our third child, subsequently I have to address the question of whether I can install three child car seats in our 850 wagon. Our oldest will be 4 and 3/4 years and our second child will be 2 and 3/4 years at the time our third child is born. I did have the dealer install all the hardware for three car seat tether straps. My wife insists that the infant should ride rear facing in the middle of the back seat for safety reasons, but that seems very awkward to me, given that one typically uses the car seat to carry a sleeping baby! I would very much like to avoid buying a minivan or an SUV. We don't have the third seat option but I am considering having it installed - I understand its appoximately $1000.00. Anyone ever have a child in a car seat in the third seat? The built in booster seat in the middle won't help much, the manual says a passenger has to weigh at least 50 pounds and our oldest is only 40 pounds.
