1st 850 Oil Change - Dumb Question 850 1997

New car, so it's oil and tranny fluid change time, right? Oil change is beautiful, uses the same Mann oil filter as the trusty 945, but it's straight up and down at oil pan, 17 mm socket for the drain plug, looks like a 30 minute job. So, whats the problem?

Drained and added 5 quarts w/new filter, not being sure whether my NA took 5.6 or 6.1. Ran it, took it off ramps, no leaks. Checked dip stick and barely got reading of oil on the stick. Let it sit for a couple of hours in level garage, checked again, very hard to read, but just at bottom of stick, so I added the 6th quart. Afer overnight sit in garage, as best I can tell, the level is right in the middle of the dipstick range. Could this vehicle take 6.5 qts as a lot of oil came down with the filter, I'm wondering if oil that normally stays in pick-up tube empties with this set up?

Also, is it me or is this dipstick really hard to read? Tried different ways to put it in and get a clean read, killing time trying to read a dumb dipstick. May be easier to read when oil gets dirty. As always thanks for the help.

Mike
