ABS light on and off. How to diagnose? S70 1998

don't know if the same for 96 850, but i just fixed mine. I pull the abs ECU unit out and opened the box. resoldered the points on plug side. Also, the insultation was flaking off the two wires from pump to abs ecu....jesus, volvo still using crapy insulation.
I rewrapped them with rubber hose and zip ties.

ABS light is now out and all is good.

Be very careful prying the box open with shape tool. you can cut yourself. use sealant to box up again. there are 4 little star retainers around the screw bushings.. just gently pry under them but don't let them fling across the room. you can reinstal them with right size 1/4" drive socket to use as tap.
