S70 Opinions-Additional S70 1999

I still poo-poo all Volvos from 1999-2003, mainly because of electronic failures: ETM, DIM, etc. Because the car you are looking at is the base model, it has fewer failure points. I can understand why the mileage is low, a USAFA cadet will have to park it for 9 months at a time :) and a trade in for a Corvette would be much more fun.

The ABS module can be repaired with a good soldering iron. Computers run most everything, so no points and no plug wires. You will need to flush the ATF with 10-12 quarts of new cheap stuff, but that only takes 30 minutes. Beware, the AC evaporator will probably leak, and that is a major pain to repair.

Beware of the local COS dealer, over priced and poor mechanical abilities.

Expand your search area for a newer Volvo. Even the S80 (2003+) with the 5 cyl is a good car. I prefer looking at cars that are for sale by owner so there will be repair records. Texas and New Mexico come to mind...
