How hard ? to recharge your air-condition 850 1994turbo

It is safe for me to refill my freon at home ??? if I by a kit ??

any one done this before ??? I have a Hayne book but like others to share their input... this give more confident to do the job or not.??

I know I can buy freon can at local store...
