P0171 Code + Solution 850 1996

1996 850 Turbo Wagon -- 205K miles

I got an engine light 1 week ago. Crap! I used my basic OBDII unit to check it out. I Googled the code: Fuel Trim System Too Lean.

Many sites said to check:

Fuel pressure, Map sensor, poor O2S or MAP sensor connection at the ECM.
Inspect the harness connectors for:
Improper mating
Damaged terminals
Broken locks
Improperly formed or
Backed-out terminals
Poor terminal-to-wire connection

yada yada yada...

Do yourself a favor...check the intake hoses for leaks first. The short, upper intake hose (intercooler to manifold) was soft from oil exposure and age...popped like a balloon. Performed a spot repair, then ordered new hoses.

Happy motoring!
