Re: Track Results C70 1999

Tom,

I used my '95 854 Turbo in SCCA Solo 2 (Autocross) about 6 times last year on Michelin Pilot SXs (205/50/16). I ran in G Stock with no mods. My PAX times were about mid field, but I was beating the ESP entries on PAX and actual times. The car understeers a lot and would benefit from more tire. Trail braking seems to help rotate the car a bit faster and left foot braking is said to be good. I tried it but it takes some practice.

I was running tire pressures in the 40 - 44 psi range on the fronts and 37 on the rears. Much better than the street 35 psi since the front end is really having to work - braking, turning and accelerating. With the Turbo on mine I was breaking traction on the unloaded tire coming out of low speed corners - have to modulate the throttle to get maximum traction.

Have fun - you'll get your share of Volvo jokes - mine was dubbed the "Grocery-getter" but it turned some heads when the times were in.

I'm going back this year in ESP - my springs, shocks and strut brace took me out of the G Stock class.
