My wife has had her `03 XC70 for 4+ yrs now. Had a bevel gear issue which was covered under balance of warranty(bought the car with 42K on it). The DIM went just after warranty expired, didn`t know about Xemodex at the time so dealer repair at $2K....$500. at Xemodex. ABS module went south recently.
Despite the above issues she loves the car & I do too. We avoid the dealer as much as possible & have found an excellent indie shop.
As Klaus said, if you don`t need AWD( we do) you might want to go with just the FWD. My wife commutes 100 miles daily & the XC has been pretty reliable overall.
