Fuel Door Locking Delay V70-XC70 2001

Thanks to Bob (see messages on Massive Problems), I now understand another aspect of the 2001 XC security system. I posted a note that I had a problem with the locking pin on the fuel filler door. As noted by Bob, there is a time delay in locking the filler door when the car doors, etc. are first locked. 10 minutes after locking the car, the filler door locking pin slides into place. The filler door on my car works exactly as Bob indicated.

I would really like to thank Bob (wherever he is) for his advice since it saved a needless trip to the dealer. But I also have a concern that such information seems impossible to find (I made a yet another pass through the owners manual and could not find reference to the filler door locking delay). Also, I spoke with two dealer service depts. about the problem (before posting it on Brickboard) and neither mentioned or seemed to be aware of the delay setup. I am thankful that Brickboard is available being that I am a first time Volvo owner. But, why are there so many undocumented features and why is it that the dealers don't seem any more informed about overall operating features? Even Volvo customer service can only seem to quote what is found in the owner's manual.

Is is just me? Is it just that the 2001 V70s are so new?
