Ignition problems 850 1994

Hello, when starting the car the starter motor seems to stay on making a tremendous racket. The only way to avoid this is to time it right and release the key just at the point of the engine firing but it is not perfect. Also occasionally (but not for a while) the ABS and TRACS lights come on killing the lights and indicators until i tweak the key position backwards. I have also forced my local dealer to check my car with Volvo directly (UK) and discovered that i have keyless entry fitted though it doesn't work.

Here is the question:

I was speaking to a local mechanic who also happens to own a T5 estate like mine though automatic and he says my problem could be the alarm relay behind the ignition. He seems to think that all three problems can be caused by this relay being faulty. Is he right? it seems a little improbable to me though i really know nothing of such things, and i fear it may be an expensive item to replace for no reason.

Ian
